Writers on the Sound
Using a series of prompts, exercises and meditations, students will respond by writing fiction, memoir, essay, non-fiction, and poetry. The primary goal of this class is to create a supportive community for writers and provide structured guidance in the process of exploring one’s unique literary voice and creating art. Students will write in class and participants shall respond to each other’s work in a positive and constructive manner. We will also read and analyze passages from novels, short stories and poems as models for our own writing. During the second half of class, writers will share manuscripts and receive guidance and critique from the teacher and class participants. Writers of all experiences are welcome, whether you are published or not.
The next class will take place at my home in Port Washington, NY, starting September 12th in the evenings. For more information, contact: sonia@meow.name.
For the past eight years, many writers from around Port Washington have come to write and share their work creating a vibrant literary community. During the course of the year, I also organize readings at the Dolphin Book Shop, featuring published authors and Writers on the Sound. Come and join us! Let us continue building community that can sit together to discuss and write various in various genres and styles. I also encourage students to publish their work in magazines and literary journals.
